‘no shame®’ is a body of work that intends to normalize and create a conversation around the theme of shame. We all have shame in some form or another, feeling self-conscious or embarrassed for something that society usually influences us in believing is wrong. Unlike guilt, where we feel bad for actually doing something wrong, shame can similarly manifest itself, but for doing or feeling something that is actually normal. From the way we think about sex, identity, religion, recreation, and so on. We prevent ourselves from being our full authentic selves by hiding behind our insecurities, enforced by the negative feedback from our relationships, strangers, the internet, or other forms of media.
With this series, I hope that each piece can relate to someone’s feeling of shame, and to let them know, ‘eh, you’re normal, this is normal, who cares what people think, you do you boo’.
